Water Storage

For fresh water supply to your home you have a couple choices:  Relying on pump pressure directly from the well, or filling a cistern with a secondary pump for house pressure.  Well pumps have to work pretty hard to supply pressure to the home, so I consider that an energy hog.  Keeping a cistern full by using a solar pump seems like a natural to me.  The pump runs when the sun shines until a shut-off float in the cistern trips.  A secondary demand pump inside the home - not unlike the pumps in RVs - provides water pressure as needed.

Cost:  No idea yet, but I'll update this page to include all involved costs once I have one set up and let you know how much work it was to install.
